Begin By Looking In The Mirror
When my first daughter was born, we named her “Amirah” pronounced (a-mir-ah), which is Arabic for Princess. Only a few weeks later, my wife came home to share a story from work. A co-worker asked why did we name our daughter after a Michael Jackson song…”Man in Amirah”. Haha as the song is actually titled “Man in the Mirror”. Okay, you have to admit there was a little humor in the line.
More about the song itself. Michael Jackson sings of changing himself as well as the world, making both better. The lyrics speak of drawing a line in the sand and starting anew.
The lyrics bring the outside world in; the kids in the street with not enough to eat. The meaning of the song was heard and felt not just when released, but even today some three decades later. The message of the song, essentially, is to get the message. Here are a few of the lyrics.
I’m gonna make a change, For once I’m my life
It’s gonna feel real good, Gonna make a difference, Gonna make it right
I’m starting with the man in the mirror, I’m asking him to change his ways
And no message could have been any clearer,
If you want to make the world a better place. Take a look at yourself, and then make a change.
Essentially, there is a wealth of change which needs to take place in the world. We must first be the change we desire to see.
Share a time when you have identified a change you have mad internally which has impacted you and others. Your share here will bless another and I promise to write you back.
See you next Sunday,
MJ
